Leischow Named NCI Branch Chief
Dr. Scott Leischow has been named chief of the Tobacco Control Research Branch in the Behavioral Research Program of NCI's Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences. He comes to NCI from Arizona, where he was director of the Arizona Program for Nicotine and Tobacco Research and was an associate professor in the University of Arizona School of Public Health. In 1998, he was named Arizona Prevention Center Researcher of the Year. His research interests have focused on nicotine behavioral pharmacology, cessation of tobacco use and addiction.
Shayiq Joins CSR
Dr. Rass Shayiq, is the Center for Scientific Review's new scientific review administrator for the alcohol and toxicology integrated review group, subcommittees 1 and 4. Prior to joining CSR, he was affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University, where he was director of the laboratory of investigative medicine and assistant professor in the departments of medicine and biochemistry and molecular pharmacology. He has also been on the faculties of Temple University School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania and University of Kashmir, India. Shayiq has made major contributions in establishing the presence of hepatic mitochondrial cytochrome P450 by purification and molecular characterization of six P450 isoforms from rat hepatic mitochondria. He has been supported from various sources, most recently through an NIH research project grant.
