Tuan Receives Marshall Urist AwardDr. Rocky Tuan (r), chief of the NIAMS Cartilage Biology and Orthopaedics Branch, recently received the Marshall Urist Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society, presented by Dr. Maurizio Pacifici (l). Tuan received the award at the society's annual conference for his cutting-edge work in the area of tissue regeneration. He joined NIH over 2 years ago from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia to head the then-new NIAMS branch. He has been instrumental in recruiting a number of talented researchers and physicians to build an active research group. The branch's work is to study cartilage and bone biology, and to translate their research discoveries into novel and effective tissue engineering approaches to treat degenerative diseases affecting joints and connective tissue.
