Feedback: Recently, all ORF personnel received an email asking to respond to a “Send Word Now” alert. Can you explain a little more on why this is being issued, who initiated this, what it will be used for and if this is going to be an NIH-wide thing ? Thank you.
Response from the Office of Research Facilities: Thank you for your inquiry. The NIH Office of Research Facilities is conducting additional tests of the Send Word Now and Get Word Back applications. NIH as a whole is currently leveraging Send Word Now and Get Word Back to ensure that it can communicate with its staff during a wide range of scenarios. Given that ORF has a highly distributed workforce with 24/7 coverage and that many ORF employees are best reached by radio, we are adjusting our processes to take those factors into account.
By conducting these tests we hope to familiarize ORF staff with the applications, implement best practices to create the most efficient response mechanisms and ultimately prepare for a scenario where these applications can assist ORF in the continuation of the numerous vital roles we play at NIH. We will continue to work closely with the Office of Research Services, Division of Emergency Management to assure the applications are leveraged to their highest potential. We look forward to your continued participation in these tests.
