Dr. Enrico Cabib, retired NIH principal investigator and valued colleague and friend, died Feb. 24. His scientific mind and sense of humor enriched NIH since 1967, when he joined NIDDK as a principal investigator.

Margaritha Barbara Cole—who was the welcoming face of the R&W gift shop on the B1 level of Bldg. 31 for 27 years—died in 2020 at age 84. Plans for a memorial service had been put on hold due to the pandemic.

Dr. Partap Khalsa, director of NCCIH’s Division of Extramural Activities (DEA), retired Dec. 31 after 16 years at NIH.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) elected 505 scientists, engineers and innovators from around the world and across all disciplines to its 2022 class of fellows. Ten NIHer’s are among the electees.

NIH mourns the unexpected passing of Rebecca Kolberg, chief of the NIH Director’s Presentations Branch in the Office of Communications and Public Liaison (OCPL), who had retired Dec. 31 after a 20-year NIH career.

Dr. Roger I. Glass stepped down Jan. 14 as director of the Fogarty International Center (FIC) and NIH associate director for international research. He plans to remain at Fogarty as senior scientist emeritus.

Dr. Gerhard Ehrenspeck, 81, retired scientific review officer, Center for Scientific Review (CSR), passed away on Jan. 3 from complications of cancer treatment.

Dr. Joseph M. Betz retired on Dec. 31, after serving as the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) acting director for 4½ years.

NIH Chief Information Officer Andrea Norris, who also served as director of the Center for Information Technology (CIT), retired on Dec. 31.

Dr. Jeffrey Smith, chief of the cellular and systems neurobiology section (CSNS) in the Basic Neuroscience Program at NINDS, retired on Dec. 31, after 28 years of service to NIH—all with NINDS.
