Alesha Holliday, director of NCI’s Office of Management Policy and Compliance (OMPC), recently retired after more than three decades at NIH.

Dr. Bruce Nisula, a longtime member of the intramural community who began his NIH career in 1971, died Aug. 30, after a long battle with cancer.

Dr. Geoffrey Mueller, director of the NIEHS Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Research Core Facility, was awarded the John W. Yunginger, M.D., Memorial Lectureship at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) held in Phoenix earlier this year.

Dr. Michael Steinmetz, 70, director of the NEI Division of Extramural Science Programs (DESP), died July 30, following a boating accident.

More than 130 NIH professionals from 25 institutes, centers and offices were recognized Aug. 2 for their time, expertise and contributions to phase 1 of the NIH Future of Work (FOW) initiative.

After 31 years as clinical director in the NIDDK Division of Intramural Research and 50 years total at NIH, Dr. James “Jim” Balow has retired. Balow stepped down as NIDDK’s clinical director in 2020 and has since remained in his position as acting chief and senior investigator in NIDDK’s Kidney Diseases Branch.

Dr. James M. Anderson, NIH deputy director for program coordination, planning and strategic initiatives (DPCPSI), retired June 30, after nearly 12 years of service.
