CSR’s Politis Retires
Dr. Alex Politis, chief of the infectious diseases and microbiology integrated review group (IRG) at the Center for Scientific Review (CSR), retired in June. He served as IRG chief for 19 of his 23 years at NIH. Politis likened parts of the job as chief to his days of coaching basketball, baseball and soccer teams.
NIDDK’s Knowler Retires After 46 Years
With September marking his official retirement after nearly 50 years at NIH, Dr. William Knowler leaves behind an extraordinary legacy. Since 1979, he has served as chief of NIDDK’s diabetes epidemiology and clinical research section in the Phoenix Epidemiology and Clinical Research Branch.
IRG Chief Ni Retires from CSR
Language propelled Dr. Weijia Ni from his childhood in Shanghai, China, through a decade-long ordeal on a state farm during the Cultural Revolution, to education and a career in the United States. After 20 years at NIH, he retired Aug. 31 as chief of the Risk Prevention and Health Behavior Integrated Review Group in the Center for Scientific Review.
Talbot Retires After 5-Decade Tenure at NIH
Dr. Bernard Talbot retired in July 2021, marking the closure of a 51-year NIH career.
