Four new members recently joined the National Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Advisory Council.

Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, chief of the cancer biomarkers research group, NCI Division of Cancer Prevention, was honored by the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) with the 2017 Clinical and Translational Proteomics Award.

Dr. Charles G. Edmonds retired from his position as program director in NIGMS’s Division of Cell Biology and Biophysics recently, putting a cap on a remarkable globe-trotting, highly interdisciplinary career.

Dr. Soojay Banerjee, a long-time researcher at NIH, died Oct. 23 after a 2-year battle with cancer, 4 days past his 50th birthday.

After 32 years at NIH, Mark Rotariu, budget officer at NIDCD, retired recently.

Dr. Jean Chin, a program director in the NIGMS Division of Cell Biology and Biophysics (CBB), has retired after 23 years of service.

Dr. Anna María Nápoles is the new scientific director at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. She is the first Latina named to the position at NIH.

Dr. Marcelle Morrison-Bogorad, who was director of NIA’s Division of Neuroscience for 14 years, died in September in Costa Rica, where she retired from NIA in 2010 to enjoy “la pura vida.”

Dr. Nadarajen Vydelingum, fondly known as Nada, passed away on Aug. 28. He was a cell biologist, educator, researcher and health administrator. He had retired from the National Cancer Institute 3 years ago.

Dr. Catherine Schairer, senior staff scientist in NCI’s Metabolic Epidemiology Branch (MEB), retired from the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics in September after 37 years of service. She is best known for her work on female breast cancer.
