NIDA, NIAAA Support Surgeon General’s Report

NIDA and NIAAA directors Dr. Nora Volkow and Dr. George Koob, along with several other public health officials, participated in the recent launch of surgeon general Dr. Vivek Murthy’s new report on alcohol and drug misuse. Facing Addiction in America: The Surgeon General’s Report on Alcohol, Drugs and Health was unveiled at an event held at the Paramount Theater in Los Angeles.

The report provides an in-depth look at the science of addiction, calls for a cultural shift in the way Americans talk about the issue and recommends actions to prevent and treat substance use disorders.
