Corbie-Smith To Give NIMHD Director’s Lecture, Mar. 13
Dr. Giselle Corbie-Smith will give the next lecture in the NIMHD Director’s Seminar Series on Tuesday, Mar. 13 at 2 p.m. in the Porter Neuroscience Research Center Bldg., Rm. 610. She will discuss “Valuing Their Voice: Creating an Infrastructure to Support Patient-Centered and Community-Engaged Research.”
Corbie-Smith is the Kenan distinguished professor of social medicine and medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and director of the Center for Health Equity Research. She also directs the Program on Health Disparities at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Corbie-Smith has been a member of several national and regional committees including Institute of Medicine groups examining the ethical issues of involving minority and underserved communities in housing-related research and on standards for systematic reviews in comparative effectiveness research.
Nationally recognized for her work on practical and ethical issues regarding involvement of minorities in research, Corbie-Smith received an M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a master’s degree in clinical research from Emory University.
