The Office of Research on Women’s Health hosted the 48th meeting of its advisory committee on research on women’s health on Apr. 10 at Natcher Conference Center. Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, gave the keynote address. She described the Helping End Addiction Long-Term (HEAL) Initiative and NIDA-supported research addressing sex differences in pain and addiction. Launched a year ago, the HEAL Initiative builds on NIH research on pain and addiction and on integrating behavioral interventions with medication-assisted treatment to improve treatments for opioid use and addiction and to enhance pain management.
