Dr. John Kehne, a program director in NINDS’s Division of Translational Research, retired on June 30.

In June, Dr. Robert N. Hoover, director of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Program, retired from the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) after 48 years of service to the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. David Remondini, a legendary scientific review officer at the Center for Scientific Review and the face of fair peer review for 36 years at NIH, died on May 7 at age 88 following surgery. Dapper, humble and eternally personable, Remondini led CSR’s genetics study section from 1977 to his retirement in 2013.

Dr. Leepo Cheng Yu, a long-time muscle biologist and lab chief in the NIAMS intramural research program, died of cancer on Apr. 28.

Stacy Charland, deputy director of the NIH Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Office of the Director, and NIH deputy chief information officer, retired at the end of May.

Margaritha Barbara Cole, 84, who provided memorable retail warmth at the R&W Gift Shop when it was a large operation on the B1 level of Bldg. 31, died Apr. 19 in Maryland.

Dr. Felipe Sierra, director of NIA’s Division of Aging Biology (DAB) and an international advocate for growing the field of geroscience, retired from federal service on Apr. 30 after leading the division for 14 years.

Neuroscientist and artist Dr. Bevil Conway has joined NEI’s Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research (LSR) as chief of the unit on sensation, cognition and action.

Ann Dieffenbach retired on Aug. 3 after more than 40 years at NIH, 33 of them as the communications director of NIGMS.

Cornelius B. Alexander, who worked as a research microbiologist at NIH for 40 years, died at home Apr. 20 after several months of hospitalization and rehab. He was 84.
