Role Named NINDS Scientific Director
Dr. Lorna Role was recently named scientific director at NINDS. She officially joined the institute in February. She will oversee NINDS’s Intramural Research Program, which consists of 1,015 employees working in 48 labs on the NIH campus.

Mary Bochanis, one of the longest-serving volunteers at the Children’s Inn at NIH, passed away Mar. 7 at age 94.
Former CC Leader Rosen Mourned
Dr. Saul Rosen, whose 35-year career was spent entirely at NIH, died peacefully at home on Feb. 28 at age 90.
NINR Mourns Loss of Fourie
Dr. Nicolaas (Nic) Fourie, a longtime member of NINR’s Intramural Research Program, died suddenly on Feb. 23.
NHLBI’s Engelgau Retires After 33 Years
Dr. Michael Engelgau, who helped establish and guide NHLBI’s CTRIS in his role as its first deputy director, has retired.
NIGMS Bids Farewell to Long-Serving Staff
NIGMS recently bid fond farewells to a number of long-time employees. Combined, this group of retirees put in more than 117 years at the institute. Among the retirees are scientific staff members Dr. Janna Wehrle, Dr. Hinda Zlotnik and Dr. Richard Okita.
Blood Bank’s Sanders Ends 22-Year NIH Career
