Three NIH’ers and one recent retiree were recognized with Presidential Rank Awards recently at an all-day leadership summit at Washington’s Mayflower Hotel.

NIDDK alumnus Dr. Cornelis P.J. “Neil” Glaudemans, 85, died on Feb. 1 following a series of respiratory and cardiac complications.

Dr. Charles E. Land, an internationally acclaimed statistical expert on radiation risk assessment, died Jan. 25 at his home in Portugal.

NIDCR postdoctoral fellow Dr. Sang-A Park, 27, was hit by a car on the NIH campus on Monday, Jan. 22. She died several hours later.

Dr. Mark Caprara has been named chief of the interdisciplinary molecular sciences and training (IMST) integrated review group at the Center for Scientific Review.

Dr. Koji Yoshinaga recently retired from federal service after 40 years as program director in the Fertility and Infertility Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

Dr. Daniel Kastner, scientific director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, was named the Federal Employee of the Year as part of the 2018 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals program, known as the “Sammies.”

Dr. Patricia Grady retired from federal service on Aug. 31 after 30 years at NIH, including 23 years as director of the National Institute of Nursing Research.

Dr. Bonnie Mathieson, who had a long and distinguished career at NIH spanning 43 years, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 8.

Dr. Roderic Pettigrew, who retired as director of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering last fall, was honored at a farewell ceremony Mar. 1 at Stone House.
