Research Conference To Focus on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Health

The NIH Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Health Scientific Interest Group (NIH AANHPI-HSIG) will host the inaugural Annual NIH AA and NHPI Health Research Conference on May 4-5 to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month, highlight AANHPI research achievements and assess research needs. 

The main theme of the conference is “Mechanism and Translational Research to Improve Health and Therapeutic Outcomes for AA and NHPI Populations.”

Dr. Howard Koh
Dr. Howard Koh will be a keynote speaker at the conference.

NIH acting director Dr. Lawrence Tabak; NIMHD director Dr. Eliseo Pérez-Stable; Krystal Ka‘ai, executive director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders; UNITE co-chair Dr. Marie Bernard; and Dr. Katrina Goddard, director of NCI’s Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences, will give opening remarks.

Dr. Victor Dzau, president of the National Academy of Medicine, and Dr. Howard Koh of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health will be the keynote speakers. NEI director Dr. Michael Chiang and NINR director Dr. Shannon Zenk will join the final summary and panel discussion on May 5.
