NIH’ers Roll In on Bike to Work Day
On May 15, after two rainy days, the skies cleared and local roads filled with cyclists. That day, some NIH’ers commuted into work on their bicycles as part of the Washington area’s Bike to Work Day and dropped by the NIH pitstop behind the Natcher Bldg.
Astronauts Visit Lab, Patients at Clinical Center
NASA astronaut Dr. Michael Barratt, a member of Expedition 71, visited the NIH Clinical Center’s Rehabilitation Medicine Department.
While visiting the Neurorehabilitation and Biomechanics (NAB) Research Lab, he tested an exoskeleton intended for assistance and exercise applications. The exoskeleton was originally designed for children with cerebral palsy by NAB researchers.
Local Musicians Entertain in the CC Atrium
Two recent concerts in the Music in the Atrium series at the Clinical Center brought joy to NIH staff, patients and visitors.
On Feb. 21, three internationally acclaimed young pianists dazzled those in attendance with their skillful, emotive performance. Held in conjunction with the European Academy of Music and Art, the concert featured Daya Wampler (12), Sarina Li (12) and Victoria Zhong (15), who played classical selections, including works by Chopin, Schumann and Liszt.
NIH’ers Celebrate Wear Red Day, Heart Health Month
On Feb. 7, NIH’ers across multiple institutes wore red in honor of National Wear Red Day. Some showed their spirit in their virtual meetings; others shared their heart-healthy pledges in person.
Research shows that having social support makes getting regular physical activity, eating healthy, losing weight and managing stress easier. Remember: even small changes can make a big difference.

Have you ever wanted to play the fastest growing sport in the United States? Well, now’s your chance.
A new pickleball club has begun playing at a converted tennis court near Bldg. 60. Sponsored by the Recreation and Welfare Association (R&W), the club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 - 8 p.m. and Wednesdays from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. for open social play.
