On Tuesday, Apr. 20, Dr. Ryan Shaw will present the second NINR Director’s Lecture of 2021, from 1 to 2 p.m. (ET) via NIH Videocast. In his presentation, “Digital Health: Towards the Next Era of Healthcare Delivery and Chronic Disease Management,” Shaw will discuss the role that digital health is playing in transforming health care delivery and in creating new opportunities for chronic disease management across the lifespan.

Shaw is an associate professor at the Duke University schools of nursing and medicine. He is the director of the Health Innovation Lab, an accelerator to test new technologies and care delivery processes in both real and simulated clinical environments. He also serves as the faculty lead of the Duke Mobile App Gateway—a digital health initiative of the Duke Clinical & Translational Science Institute.

His research focuses on how data from mobile health and novel sensing technologies can be used for care delivery to improve health outcomes. He works to discover opportunities for integration of these technologies into software applications, including electronic health records, to leverage predictive analytics and forecast patient needs. With these data he engineers models of care delivery that capitalize on the emerging digital health infrastructure of health systems and society.

The NINR Director’s Lecture Series brings top scientists from across the nation who are advancing nursing science in significant ways to share their work and interests with a transdisciplinary audience at NIH and the broader biomedical research community. The event is free and open to the public. For more information and to register, visit http://ow.ly/t2fa50E7IaR
