Nobel laureate Dr. Eric Kandel of Columbia University laid aside his scientific work and spoke instead on art history in the opening Demystifying Medicine talk Jan. 5 in Masur Auditorium.

He was introduced by NIH director Dr. Francis Collins. Kandel spoke on “The Age of Insight: The Quest to Understand the Unconscious in Art, Mind and Brain from Vienna 1900 to the Present,” which is also the title of his recent book.
