Sidewalk with construction fences alongside Bldg. 12A
The sidewalk along Center Dr. (above) will remain open during the duration of the construction. Those exiting Bldg. 12A (below) near the construction site will, for safety reasons, detour around the work area.

Feedback:

Once again, there is fencing up between Bldg. 12 and Center Dr. What is the nature of this construction project and how long will it take? Would it be possible to keep the sidewalk along Center Dr. open this time? In the past, projects at this location have taken many months, requiring many pedestrians to cross the road twice, which is dangerous.

Response from the Office of Research Facilities

This project will replace the steam lines to Bldgs. 22, 12A and 12B. These lines have experienced multiple failures in recent years and visual examination of piping confirmed they need to be replaced. Replacement of the steam line should provide a new lifespan good for the next 40-50 years. This project also relocates a manhole to improve access and waterproofing and solves the problem of steam coming into Bldg. 12A when there is excessive ground moisture, such as after a heavy rain. ORF anticipates the project to be complete by April 2019. The sidewalk along Center Dr. will remain open during the duration of the construction. Those exiting Bldg. 12A near the construction site will, for safety reasons, encounter a slight detour around the work area.
