NIDCD’s Chadwick Retires

Dr. Richard Chadwick retired from NIH in April after 39 years of research and service. He spent the last 23 years at the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders as chief of the section on auditory mechanics. He continues to serve as a scientist emeritus.

Mayer Elected to Royal Society

Dr. Mark Mayer, a scientist emeritus at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, was pleasantly surprised when he recently opened his mailbox and found a letter announcing his election as a fellow of the Royal Society of the United Kingdom.

CSR’s Freund Retires

Dr. Robert Freund recently retired as chief of the AIDS and related research (AARR) integrated review group. His career divides roughly in two—the first half in research and teaching at Harvard and the University of Maryland and the second half at the Center for Scientific Review.

Tucci Named Next NIDCD Director

Dr. Debara L. Tucci has been chosen new director of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. She is currently professor of surgery and director of the cochlear implant program in the division of head and neck surgery & communication sciences at Duke University.

Former NIAMS Director Katz Remembered

At a memorial service for former NIAMS director Dr. Steve Katz, two past NIH directors and the current director were among those paying tribute to a man who was beloved as mentor, scientist, administrator--and musician.

AGA Honors NINR’s Henderson

Dr. Wendy A. Henderson, chief of the digestive disorders unit in NINR’s Biobehavioral Branch, has been selected to participate in the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Future Leaders Program.
